New Orleans, Louisiana
April 9 - 16, 2011
Registration deadline: March 1, 2011 Please call or write for application form
In 2005 the New Orleans area was devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Although New Orleans has seen significant progress, there is much work left to be done. The area is in a housing crisis. More than 1,000 families still live in FEMA trailers (not meant for long-term occupation); thousands of homeowners cannot afford to rebuild their storm-damaged homes (in the area workers face low-wage jobs or high rates of unemployment, lack of insurance or even fraudulent contractors that took whatever little they had); and nearly twenty thousand households need an affordable place to live.
We will be traveling to New Orleans and partnering with the St. Bernard Project, a non-profit agency that, for the past few years, has been helping to get folks into suitable homes.
